Jeffersonville General Hospital

This was a hospital built by the federal government on land owned by Jesse D. Bright, a United States Senator who was a Confederate Sympathizer. Due to his position, he was expelled from the Senate and ostracized by the United States government.

The land for the hospital was seized by the federal government and no compensation was ever given to Senator Bright for the property. This is a very similar action to the seizure of Arlington House and plantation from the family of General Robert Edward Lee and the modern day location of Arlington National Cemetery.

The hospital was active from February 1864 through December 1866. The SCV will update this blog with more information as soon as possible.
